We will be studying the emission of secondary prompt gamma rays during treatment
of a patient with proton beam radiotherapy. We are developing systems to detect
the gammas and statistical reconstruction algorithms for producing images of
emitted gammas. The computing work will include Monte Carlo modeling or our
prototype detection systems and proton radiotherapy treatments and work to
improve the efficiency and speed of our reconstruction methods through parallel
CPU systems and GPU computing techniques.
